Boo at the Zoo

Misc for October ... Nicky went to the zoo for fall feast and we walked for diabetes!!

Wow .... its almost November!!

Happy Monday!!

I can't believe how fast this year has went!! Its almost November already! We even had snow flurries this morning on our way to work!! YUCK! Seriously didn't fall just get here?? I have realized that anymore there are only two seasons; summer and winter! :(

This weekend was rough for Nicky and I ….

Steve and I have been going back and forth on whether or not to give Nicholas the flu shot . After talking to his pediatrician we decided it was probably the best thing for him to get one since he is in daycare and his history of getting sick.

The office is about 5 miles from Steve’s and about 45 min drive for me in traffic; so he decided to take him last week since he had him. He took him on Thursday morning. They have open hours for the flu shots. When they got there they asked him to have a seat while they pulled his file. Steve said they sat there for about 5 minutes and they called him back. When they got back to the room the nurse (who is not the normal pedi nurse) came in and told Steve “Looks like your little guy is a candidate for the flu mist” … Steve said “oh ok, I just had the mist for military and they said it was only for adults” .. the nurse told him that they know have the mist for ages 2 and older. She said that it was Steve’s decision whether to give Nicholas the mist or shot. So Steve said well I guess the mist that way he doesn’t have to go through a shot…. They gave him the mist and away they went.

Steve called to tell me they got it and were going shopping and that he would meet me after work to drop him off. The afternoon went on and I didn’t hear anything. Then when I met him to pick Nicky up he told me that Nicholas was sounding very horse and starting to get a deep cough. I got him home and realized that he was burning up to. He had a fever of 102.4 ….. he was so lethargic all night .. Didn’t want to do anything but lay on the couch and drink juice!!

The next morning, after coughing all night, I gave him Advil and sent him to daycare. I had a few things I had to get done at work. I decided to call his pedi and ask her about it. She had been off on Thursday so she didn’t even know he had come in. She looked at his file and said to me “He shouldn’t have had the flu mist because of his immune and resp. issues he has had” .. WTF!! Serious?? She then went on about how Steve must have answered no to the questions about having these issues. I couldn’t believe would, but I guess it was a possibility. So I called Steve, he said there were NO questions about his medical history … he said looking back he should have asked but the nurse was looking at his file, which has everything in it. So basically what happened is the live virus from the mist went straight to his lungs. He has been sick all weekend. Fever, headache, can hardly talk, etc. Yesterday was the first time he actually wanted to play. We had to stay inside all weekend and do breathing treatments every 6 hours. His pedi said he can not have the mist till at least age 5!!!

He is better today …. Not completely but he actually woke up in a good mood and was hungry!! I have had him on Motrin all weekend.

The thing is …. He only got ½ the dose and is suppose to go back in a month for the other half … well they have to give the mist again since they did the first time … ummmm let’s think … no way! So basically he has went through this for nothing!!!

Other than that we have been great. I can’t get over how much Nicholas is talking. He repeats everything, and I mean everything, that is said. He can sing is ABC’s and count to ten. He skips #5 every time and misses a few letters but for the most part he has then down!! He is doing awesome at daycare. He loves trucks, planes and cars. Every time he hears a train now he stops and says “oh Thomas the Train”!! LOL!!

He is becoming a daddy’s boy though … everything lately is about daddy!! He loves it when I tell him that daddy is coming to pick him up!! He gets a huge smile and says “I ride in my truck to daddy’s house”!!

We are excited about Halloween on Friday. I took him to Boo at the Zoo last weekend and he loved it! He loves the zoo period, but he had fun wearing his costume. He kept telling everyone “I ARGHHH” (he is a pirate lol)! He keeps asking me if its trick or treat day!!

I am looking forward to the holidays this year … I am excited to see what he thinks of Santa this year!

I get to go home for the week of Christmas also! It will be good to spend time with everyone and by that time I will have a new niece or nephew .. my guess is nephew!! ;)

Other than that jus the normal routine ….. daycare, work and then home!!
